Six spring gardens to inspire your next move
Spring is upon us and as the season of new beginnings it’s the time of year that most of us start thinking about moving house.
In fact, a recent Rightmove poll found that over two-thirds (67%) of Rightmove users are most likely to start home-hunting in spring than any other season.
The warmer weather and longer evenings fill us with a sense of limitless ambition as we soak up the sun on balconies, rooftop terraces and gardens across the country.
So, with that in mind, here are six stunning spring gardens we hope will inspire your next move.
Sharpenhoe Road
You’ll be doing something wrong if this elegant Georgian property, which dates back to the mid-18th century, isn’t barbecue-central as April blossoms into May.
Streatley house has a timeless charm to it and its delightful, mature gardens offer the six-bedroom property a certain sense of seclusion from the world around it.
The tennis and croquet lawn also has a woodland walk running along its southern boundary underplanted with daffodils and bluebells to create a wooded spring garden, while a beech and old nut hedge leads round to the formal rose garden, with an ornamental pond beyond. To the north is a more informal garden.

Coombe Bottom
Coombe Water is nestled away in the beautiful Somerset countryside and is the perfect spot to enjoy a few Pimm’s as the spring sun sets over the horizon.
Set in a gloriously picturesque eight acres of land, the garden is alive with fruit trees and is also a real treasure trove for animal lovers, with the current owners having spotted otters, kingfishers, little egrets and moorhens.
Prospective buyers can also imagine dipping their feet in the gentle stream which runs through the garden or taking horses out for a ride from the paddocks beyond the garden.

Coolham Road
The beautifully sprawling grounds of this nine-bedroom country house evoke feelings of walking into Narnia, with Coolham Manor boasting 100 acres of seemingly magical land to explore.
The effortlessly glorious woodlands and gardens incorporate four stables, koi carp ponds, three extensive aviaries and a 40-acre field big enough to host polo tournaments.
The garden is laid out with extensive lawns lined by ornamental trees, a lavender garden and even sunken gardens. You will also find a waterfall and a five-acre bluebell wood, made up of mainly Oak, Norwegian Spruce and Beech.

Alfold Road
There’s a famous Blur song called Country House in which Damon Albarn sings about the rural charm in the country – and he may well have had this estate in mind when he penned those lyrics.
This five million pound property is quite simply beautiful and outside, to one side of the house, lies a croquet lawn with a summer house and an apple orchard which, in spring, is carpeted with daffodils.
The garden gives way to a mature woodland of oak, birch, beech and flowering cherry trees which in spring is transformed by bluebells.
Beyond the formal gardens, to the east, is grazing as well fenced paddocks. In addition to the main house there are two excellent cottages, extensive outbuildings and garages.

Baileys, a five-bedroom house in a highly sought-after Berkshire hamlet, is surrounded by wildlife. It also has perfectly manicured lawns which are ideal for weekend games of croquet and garden cricket.
The majority of the gardens surround Baileys with both south and west aspects. Towards the centre of the garden is a large fenced pond with water lilies and bulrushes, shaded by a well-established weeping willow encouraging a variety of local wildlife.
