Searches jump by a third overnight after Banksy mural appears in Finsbury Park
After an Islington-council-green mural appeared on the side of a building in north London’s Finsbury Park on Sunday, talked turned to whether it was the work of the nation’s most illusive artist.
By Monday, the piece had been confirmed as a Banksy via the artist’s official Instagram account. But as well as the mural itself – which sits behind a tree, and gives the illusion of foliage – attracting much attention, the new artwork has also thrown the local postcode of N4 into the spotlight.
Searches for Finsbury Park increased by 30% from Sunday into Monday, and it was also the highest number of searches for the area in one day since July 2023.
Our property expert, Tim Bannister, said: “As soon as Banksy confirmed he was behind the new mural in Finsbury Park, curious searchers jumped straight onto Rightmove to find out more about the area, the type of homes that are available, and perhaps what it might be like living nearby.”
The average asking price of homes for sale in N4, where Finsbury Park is located, is currently £657,014, while the average advertised rent is £2,519 per month.
As well as Victoria and Piccadilly Underground Line connections, the postcode boasts the expansive green space of its namesake park. Marc von Grundherr, Director of Benham and Reeves, said: “The area has a lot to offer and has already been attracting the attention of homebuyers long before Banksy left his mark. The park itself is a focal point of the community, and it’s also one of the best-connected areas in Zone 2. With Banksy now strengthening the spotlight on the area, we expect it will continue to perform well over the year ahead, as more buyers discover what has become one of the capital’s most understated hotspots.”
