Rightmove Students – The current student accommodation market

Student accommodation is one of the fastest growing investment sectors in the UK. A new CBRE report shows that investment in UK student housing has more than doubled in the first half of 2012 as compared to the same period last year to £800 million.

The higher tuition fees have not deterred UK and foreign students from applying and in many cities there is a shortage of good quality accommodation. Private hall companies are aiming to bridge the gap by building superior student apartments in sought after locations. The knock-on effect of the higher tuition fees and the increase in construction may take effect in the next few years and result in an oversupply in certain areas.


All round Europe, architects are being briefed to design state-of-the-art student accommodation.
Most contain an element of mixed-usage and are located in city centres to house the growing numbers of students.
