This football stadium is up for sale and it could be yours
Christmas has come early for football fans in Essex…
Christmas has come early for football fans who’ve always dreamt of buying their own stadium, but only if they can stump up a cool £2.9 million.
Ship Lane in Essex, former home of Isthmian League side Thurrock FC, is on the market after chairman Tommy South failed to find a new owner since announcing he was stepping down due to health reasons.
The club played its final competitive fixture at the conclusion of the 2017/18 season.
Prospective buyers will be able to lace up their boots in the dressing room and play out on the hallowed turf before relaxing with a drink or two in the club house. The whole lot is up for sale.
The main pitch is surrounded on all four sides by terraced stands, with some seating on three sides.
Included in any proposed sale is the clubhouse, a stadium catering outlet and a merchandise shop.
A further two football pitches are located to the north of the main pitch, which are used as training facilities and playing fields. The Thurrock Hotel, consisting of a four-to-five storey building, with parking, sits at the southern boundary of the site.
The site is separated into three main areas: Thurrock Football Club, which is 5.45 acres, the training pitches, which are 9.15 acres and the buffer zone, which is 2.81 acres.
Miles Shipside, Rightmove’s property expert, said: “It’s not every day that you see a football stadium for sale on Rightmove, but I’m sure lots of football fans will be interested in this plot of land.
“As a Nottingham Forest fan, Ship Lane is not quite as impressive as the City Ground, but it was a football cathedral for Thurrock fans, and I’m sure the site will be snapped up soon.”
This property is listed for sale with Dedman Gray.
