How Rightmove delivers better value than canvassing
Many leading agents have noted that canvassing no longer works for them. As consumers, we’re so used to seeing so much advertising every day that it’s often just seen as clutter. In today’s digital world, a smarter more targeted approach is needed to deliver measurable results. Here, successful agents give their view on canvassing.
Perry Power, Owner, Power Bespoke (Reigate)
‘Today’s world is all about digital and content. No paper leaves my office. We’re a modern business and I’m very analytical, so for me canvassing is just not trackable enough. I haven’t got millions of pounds to spend on marketing, so I have to be really clever.
Instead of spending a small fortune on putting 10,000 leaflets out there that I can’t track or measure, I know exactly how much traffic Rightmove sends to my website every week through my Featured Agent adverts and I can see exactly where they ended up by using Google Analytics on my site.
My hunch is that 90% of leaflets that are posted end up in landfill within a week. I’d love to be able to prove that! There are much cheaper ways to get my message out there using digital.’

Ben Hudson, Managing Director, Hudson Moody (York)
‘As in all areas, canvassing in York is overdone. So we tend not to do it. When people are getting 3 or 4 leaflets through their letter box every day, they get exasperated and it’s not an effective use of our time and effort. The only time we canvass is if a client is looking in a very specific area. Otherwise, we focus our marketing spend elsewhere, like on Rightmove.
Rightmove gives us broader exposure to both buyers and sellers. Even if they aren’t ready to sell right now, being visible across Rightmove’s search results is a more effective way of us targeting potential future sellers and helping us be one of the 2 or 3 agents that get invited out when the time comes.’
