The municipality of Vicalvi is located on a hill in the Comino Valley. On the top, at 590 meters above sea level, there is an 11th century castle. The fortress is surrounded by the old medieval village and Palazzo Celli is close to the enclosure walls. In the vicinity of the castle you can also find the remains of Cyclopean walls belonging to pre-Roman settlements, probably relating to a Samnite city.

The main entrance is on the central floor, where there is the frescoed living room with a stunning fireplace, a study, kitchen with fireplace, another large room, a bathroom and two bedrooms. The floor is completed by a romantic stone loggia with a spectacular, panoramic view - quite magical in the evening when all the villages in the valley are illuminated.

The upper floor consists of 5 large rooms and an unusual long, medieval-type passage loophole.

The basement forms large and ancient cellars. From these rooms it is possible to access the garden at the back of the building, which you can also reach on foot, via an ancient stone staircase, from the village outside the walls of the castle.


VICALVI, ALVITO AND THE CIOCIARIA

Vicalvi and its neighbouring town, Alvito, are among the many enchanting medieval towns in the area of Italy called the Ciociaria, the name given to the fertile land that lies south of Rome but north of Naples, situated inland in the hills in the heart of Italy. The Ciociaria region is within easy reach of both Rome and Naples and their respective airports. A day's shopping in Rome is a common pastime, while an even shorter drive brings you to the charming beaches south of Rome.
