Carcassonne is a truly impressive medieval town and is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It sits majestically at the top of a hill and might even take your breath away on first sight. Carcassonne is split into two cities, with the Pont Vieux bridge connecting them. Many of the streets are cobbled and the buildings look exactly as you imagine them in 12thC France. The streets are full of wonderful shops and boutiques, there are museums and markets too, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
