GUARDIALGRELE - CHIETI PROVINCE

This is a town which is situated 576 metres above sea level with a population of 9,242.  It is in a beautiful location, on a hill, at the foot of the Majella and is a great place from which to explore the National Park.  The area is renowned for its wolves, bears, deer and birds of prey, not to mention the interesting forests, shrub land and wild flowers.

The centre of the town is rich in historical buildings and it is known throughout Abruzzo for its wrought iron, copper and gold crafts. It has all facilities including banks, pharmacies, restaurants and bars.

There are many activities to choose from.  In winter, skiing is popular with the nearest resort just over 30 minutes away.  There is also climbing, cycling, mountain biking, mushroom picking and fishing.  In summer you can swim, in both lakes and the sea and participate in water sports. For those that like to relax just go to the village and enjoy a coffee or aperitivo and watch the world go by whilst talking to the locals.

The food is delicious and inexpensive and can be washed down with the fantastic local wines.
