La Cala de Mijas: Often known just as La Cala. Within the last 20 years La Cala has grown dramatically from its origins as a quaint white painted fishing village. It has retained much of its original character with its thriving and bustling atmosphere with a wide variety of shops and restaurants, many still providing the traditional cuisine at very realistic prices. Twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday) there is a market on the land behind the Village and this is very much a working market with fresh vegetables and general supplies rather than the more tourist orientated markets to be found in Nueva Andalucia and Estepona. La Cala has a lovely sandy beach lined with bars and restaurants. Behind La Cala there has been an extensive amount of developments with a wide variety of property available within walking distance of the Village and beach.
To the North of Mijas Costa you have Cerros de Aguila, which is an urban area of mainly villas and a few apartment communities. Further inland you have Mijas Golf and the surrounding areas, with a mix of newly built complexes of good quality and luxury villas around the golf course. Finally, between La Cala Hills and La Mairena, you have one of Europe's most prestigious golf resorts, La Cala Golf, with its 3 courses with clubhouse facilities, and 5-star Hotel La Cala Golf with spa facilities. Properties on La Cala Golf Resort are a good mix of quality apartment and townhouses, and large exclusive villas with stunning views.
