Description

It was the size, location and great location of the house on Pattison Lane that first appealed to the current owners when they saw it back in 2016. “It was just a few minutes’ walk from the Grand Union Canal and had very easy access to schools, shops, the motorway and the centre of Milton Keynes,” one of them recalls. “Yet as one of the original villages here, it also had a very leafy, semi-rural feel, which we liked – it still felt like a village.” The five-bedroom house was a good-size, with very generous living and bedroom space. “We could see that we could open up the ground floor of the property and adjust the layout in places to make changes that would be perfect for the size of the house, improve the flow and suit our own style of living,” the other owner adds.

FLEXIBLE LIVING

Set back from the road by its front garden, the detached, red-brick house offers very flexible living. “The house is now much more open and works very well – it is a very practical home,” he continues. “All the rooms are a good size and can have a variety of different uses.” The house is entered from the front and now features a good-sized reception hall. This leads to a ground-floor cloakroom and all the main living accommodation. “To the right, with windows looking out to the front, we have a large study with room for two desks. This has been an excellent work space for us but could equally make someone else a good snug or playroom.”

FRIENDS AND FAMILY

The dining room is also to the front of the house. This room is dual aspect, with French windows on to the garden. This lovely space, which is perfect for Sunday lunches and Christmas dinners, could also have a host of other uses to suit the lifestyle requirements of new owners. The generous sitting room is to the rear of the house, where another set of French windows gives on to the garden. “This room is ideal for entertaining,” she says. “It is such a good size. We have had lots of great parties here, with people wandering in and out from the garden and the children playing outside.”

PRACTICAL SPACE

The sitting room opens into an additional reception room that has been used as a playroom by the current owners. “We have two children and having the playroom has been wonderful,” she says. “They have been able to have all their toys out and we have been able to close the door on the room when we have needed to.” The kitchen is also a good size and has space for a breakfast table. This opens into a utility room, which in turn leads on to the garden. “The utility room is spacious and has boarded out storage above it,” he observes. “Someone else might decide to open the kitchen up into the utility room to make an even bigger kitchen. They may also decide to install French windows to the garden.”

GENEROUS BEDROOMS

All the bedrooms are currently on the first floor of the house. The layout up here has been adjusted slightly by the current owners to ensure all five rooms are a good size. The master bedroom, which overlooks the garden, has an en suite shower room and walk-in dressing room. There is a family shower room and a family bathroom. “Because we have so much bedroom and bathroom space, it has always been very easy to have guests to stay,” she adds.

FOND MEMORIES

The property has a double garage, with ample space for two cars and built-in storage. With parking for four cars as well, however, the owners agree that (subject to the relevant planning permissions) there could be the possibility of creating additional leisure, work or living space within the garage. “We have also considered the possibility of having a garden studio installed here as we have a space outside that would lend itself perfectly to a new outbuilding.” With pubs, parks and coffee shops all within walking distance, they admit they will miss the convenience of the setting as much as the house itself when they leave. “It has been a great family home and we will take some wonderful memories with us when we leave,” she says. “Everything flows so well here now – and there is a place for everything.”
