Description

The Mill is located 500 feet up of the level of the sea on a gently sloping hillside providing an amazing panoramic sea views.

FURTHER INFORMATION
Combining nostalgia and home comforts with a rural, secluded setting and panoramic sea views, The Mill can accommodate up to ten people.

The Mill is accessed from the Ground Floor, where one enters a large open plan Living area containing two of the original stone arches.

The Living area also accommodates a ‘workstation’, Shower Room, TV and Utility Room complete with washing machine and tumble drier. This area also displays one of the three original metal ‘cork screw’ olive presses standing like a sculpture, in which the olive ‘mulch’, or paste, was placed in rope sacks for final ‘cold’ pressing.

A small flight of tiled steps leads down to a spacious Dining Area and Kitchen. The Dining Area and Kitchen are clustered around the original ‘four stone’ mill rollers which form the central feature of this area, and look and operate much as they did many years ago. This ‘four stone’ mill provides evidence that olive oil production at The Mill was on an ‘industrial’ scale, and not just for local consumption.

The ‘farmhouse’ style Kitchen is equipped with an electric cooker and ‘American-style’ fridge/freezer with integral water and ice dispenser. A hallway leads to two Bedrooms, one to the left and the other to the right. Both Bedrooms, which feature the original Venetian arches, have three single beds, and each room has its own private En-suite Bathroom. One of these Bedrooms originally housed two olive oil ‘settlement’ tanks, and the other large timber pine storage barrels.

The Ground Floor hallway leads out to a vine covered Pergola for outside dining with a superb wood or charcoal BBQ and food preparation area. Timber stairs lead from the Ground Floor Living area to the Mezzanine Floor which consists of two additional Bedrooms, one twin and one double, each with En-suite Bathrooms. The Double Bedroom has its own good sized balcony with stunning views over the olive groves to the sea beyond. The twin Bedroom was originally a store room for animal (donkey) feed, and the double Bedroom (immediately above the mill stones), was the store room for the olives prior to pressing. Garden and Swimming Pool. On the north side of The Mill the Pergola covered terrace leads to a beautiful garden.

The garden has a well maintained lawn, with trees and flowers, with its own automatic water irrigation system. Stone stair lead down from the garden to the swimming pool. The 9.5m x 5.0m pool has a tiled deck and overlooks the olive groves and sea. There is a small paddling area for infants. Metal steps lead down from the pool deck to an outside furniture store room and herb garden.

LOCATION
Crete is the largest island in Greece, and the fifth largest one in the Mediterranean Sea. Here, the remnants of brilliant civilizations meet the island’s rich gastronomic culture with a background of glorious beaches, impressive mountains capes, fertile valleys and steep gorges. Crete is, after all, a small universe teeming with beauties and treasures that need a lifetime to get uncovered. The interchange at Tavronitis on Crete’s major east/west road is approx. 3km from The Mill. The sophisticated Venetian town of Hania with its museums, markets and delightful inner and outer harbour side restaurants and maze of narrow streets with lively bars, authentic tavernas and craft shops, is about a 30min drive from The Mill.
