HISTORY:
The tower house of Neira de O Páramo had a very great political-social importance in the territory of the old jurisdiction of Portearan, due to the status of nobility and the position held by the said gentlemen - mayors -, judges - who enjoyed all the rights and prerogatives of a Noble State. There are notorious gentlemen, of blood, of war-aureolis, of codpiece... Those of Neira were on the upper echelon. They were noblemen known for their blood, their weapons and their colors. Among the prominent figures of the Neira lineage, it is worth mentioning Don Manuel María Quiroga y Páramo, mayor of Lugo, by nobility, and his sons Don José Quiroga y Porras, captain of the Royal Guard and Don Rodrigo, professor at the University of Santiago, and Don Juan Bautista Quiroga Páramo y Porras, knight of the Royal Maestranza of Seville, who demolished the tower for threatening ruins. He was the last gentleman to be buried in the chapel of the Neira house. In a voluminous documentary will, at the request of Mr. Manuel Quiroga y Páramo, presented in the Royal Court to request the Mission in possession of the property belonging to the links and estates, the numerous 12 possessions and the income received by the lords of Neira in numerous parishes appear. The tower that has not yet been demolished, the preserve and the presentation rights are mentioned: “Item I say: They are presentation of said house the curated benefit of Santa Mª Magdalena de Neira and the same is the benefit of San Cipriàn de Vilasante and the same is the presentation of said house the curated benefit of Santa Eufemia de Vilarmosteiro, which is alternative with Doña Manuela de Sangro and Páramo by virtue of concord *That in transaction of this has been done by the ancestors who have been in said houses of Neira and the ancestors of Doña Manuela.* Among his ancestors stands out Admiral D. Gonzalo de Cancio, captain general and governor of La Florida (USA), married to Doña Magdalena de Luaces y Miranda. He was the introducer of corn in Asturias and in the possessions that his wife had in Mondoñedo, at the end of the 17th century.

Just 200 m away is the Neira River, which, no more than 1.5 km walking along the river we reach a beautiful place known as the Neira Bridge, a robust bridge built in the 14th century.
