Brittany, Côtes-d'Armor, Merléac, France

Located in a small hamlet close to the village of Merleac, boasting a 12th Century Knights Templar church and is also aligned with the Pilgrims Trail ‘La Compostella” you will find this amazing schoolhouse complex, still with the original undercover play areas, one for the boys and one for the girls.  The complex is believed to be where the monks that were serving the church stayed and the land to the side of the house is called ‘The Field of the Abbey’, possibly where vegetables were grown for the monks and where stables were kept for the horses.  Both properties look out over a pretty, walled courtyard area.

The main house is the original school, with classes being taught downstairs and the master living above with his family.  As the village grew in size, the schoolroom complex was built to the side and today is two appartments, in need of some TLC.

The main house offers you on the ground floor a spacious lounge area with fireplace and 17th Century staircase taking you to the first floor, a kitchen and a utility room, lending itself to become a dining area with a beautiful, vaulted ceiling.  The first floor has two bedrooms with a shower room between.  The staircase then continues to the top floor where there is a further bedroom, separate bathroom with bath and shower and a peaceful sitting area for relaxing between the two.

Running next to the house are the two appartments which are both of the same layout comprising of an entrance hall, an open plan kitchen/lounge/diner, one with wood burning stove and the other with an insert fireplace and shower room with separate toilet on the ground floor and two bedrooms above.

A great place for perhaps 3 families to live !
