Description

Three bedroom cottage with spectacular views over Calgary Beach on the Isle of Mull.

Description

Sands Cottage is a pretty traditional cottage thought to date back to the late 1800s, set in an idyllic location with breath-taking aspects across Calgary Bay.

The property is presented over one and a half storeys and comprises three double bedrooms, the principal with en suite on the ground floor. The accommodation begins with a porch leading to the hallway, with dining kitchen off. The kitchen is well equipped with a range of low level cabinetry and feature stone wall. Completing this level is a welcoming lounge benefiting from dual aspects and fireplace with wood burning stove.

Upstairs there are two double bedrooms with skylights and vaulted ceilings, separated by a main bathroom with bath and shower.

The property sits in picturesque gardens, mainly laid to lawn behind neat hedging, with a well- placed picnic bench upon the patio. There is outside access to an additional laundry/store room and a separate handy garden shed with wood store.

Location

Sands Cottage sits in a beautiful location with uninterrupted open aspects over Calgary Bay. Calgary is a picturesque hamlet on the northwest coast of the island which is known for its scenic beauty.

The Isle of Mull was formed by volcanic activity many millions of years ago and its northern coast is separated by the sound of Mull from the landmass of Ardnamurchan, the most westerly point in the UK mainland and is serviced by 3 ferry crossing ports. The island is world-renowned for its extensively varied wildlife, marine life, geology, landscapes and sea views and is a haven for walkers of all ages and levels of expertise.

Tobermory is the capital of the island, located in the northeast approximately 11 miles from Sands Cottage. It derives its name from the Gaelic ‘Tobar Mhoire’ meaning the well of Mary. The town was established in 1788 by the British Fishery Society and a small pier and customs house were the first structures to be built. Queen Victoria visited in the mid-19th century in the Royal Yacht and the royal route was thereafter used by steamship companies to advertise their cruises. Tobermory is famous for its brightly painted harbourfront houses, shops and restaurants with notable buildings including the clock tower, museum and Scottish whisky distillery. Today, Tobermory has many active clubs and societies covering a wide variety of interests, photography, a theatre, indoor swimming pool, a newly enlarged yacht marina, field sports centre and many more.

Mull has featured in both Winterwatch and Autumnwatch BBC TV nature series, highlighting the wonderfully diverse wildlife on the island.
