Formerly known as Wapping-on-the-Woze, Wapping's history dates as far back as the 13th Century with its strong ties to the maritime industry. Traditionally the area was synonymous with pirates and rather eerily, public executions. In fact, the most famous and oldest of the pubs in Wapping, 'The Prospect of Whitby' still has a wax figuring still hanging at the execution dock.
