BRIGHT IDEAS
Since moving in, they have improved and enhanced their home. Two of the bedrooms have been brought together to create one sumptuous master suite and rooms have been insulated, sound-proofed and redecorated. The electrics have also been upgraded. “This house still holds so much potential,” the owner suggests. “Subject to the relevant planning permissions, new owners could consider adding an indoor or outdoor swimming pool, with bi-folding doors that could be pulled right back on to the beautiful garden. Rooms could be opened up and reconfigured – and there could even be the possibility of creating a spacious, self-contained annexe, using the garage area and the very large bedroom above it. This would have its own private entrance and could be ideal for a relative or for letting out to paying guests, perhaps.”
FAMILY LIVING
Set back from the road by a large driveway, the L-shaped property is entered via a lobby and then a central reception hall. To the left, this leads into the capacious sitting room, which looks out to the front and back. “We spend a lot of time together as a family in this room,” she says. “In the summer months, it is nice to open the French windows on to the garden.” A downstairs cloakroom and the kitchen can also be accessed from the hall. The kitchen leads into a good-sized utility room. The dining room is next to the kitchen, which is convenient for both daily living and entertaining. “The layout of this house is ideal – it has worked very well for us as a family,” she adds.
SUMMER DAYS
The ground-floor rooms offer exceptional flexibility. The dining room, for example, could equally become a snug, study or children’s playroom. “We have a conservatory that overlooks the garden at the back of the house,” she explains. “We use this as a children’s playroom, which is great as it has double doors on to the garden, so the children can come in and out in the summer with their toys.” At the very back of the house is a light-filled garden room where the owners work from home. “My husband and I spend a lot of time in here. It is a lovely place to be, especially when the weather is warm and we can open yet more doors so we can wander outside.”
GORGEOUS BEDROOMS
All the bedrooms are on the first floor of the house. The impressive master bedroom, which has an en suite shower room and built-in storage, is the space that has been created by removing a wall. “It would be very easy for someone to take this back to two bedrooms, however,” she observes. The original master bedroom is now an especially large second bedroom and also features fitted wardrobes and an en-suite shower room. The three remaining bedrooms, one of which is the long room above the garage – accessed by its own staircase – share the family bathroom. “The bedrooms here are all a good size,” she adds. “Even the smallest, which is currently a dressing room, has been arranged with a double bed and side tables in the past.”
HAPPY MEMORIES
The family will look back over their time at Edy Court with nothing but fondness, the owner agrees. “We fell in love with the house because we knew it would be a wonderful place to welcome friends and family and we have really enjoyed hosting here on lots of occasions –from children’s birthday parties to my sister’s wedding celebration,” she says. “We have also enjoyed being able to go on lovely walks through the park right from the doorstep and having great access to central Milton Keynes, the train station and good road connections. We will miss everything about being here but are truly excited at the thought of a new family moving in and making their own happy memories in this beautiful house.”
