Description

Dating from 1720, this former cobbler’s cottage has been added to over the years to create an individual family home. The spacious accommodation is over split levels, making it an interesting home with flexible living spaces, which are bright and well proportioned. There is a generous entrance hall with steps leading down to the reception spaces, currently configured as a dining room which is panelled, and double doors lead through to a sitting room. A kitchen, with adjoining utility room, pantry and cloakroom are also on this level. A short flight of stairs leads to the excellent home office, which has external access too. From the hallway, another short flight of stairs takes you to the first-floor drawing room which is an impressive space with a vaulted ceiling and a wood burning stove. The principal suite is just off this room, comprising an impressive bedroom, with adjoining shower room and walk in wardrobe. There are 4 further double bedrooms and 2 further bathrooms in the house.

The mature gardens have been carefully planted and provide a lovely, secluded space. Along the length of the house is a paved terrace, providing plenty of space for outdoor dining and seating. Steps lead up from the terrace to a level area, mainly laid to lawn and surrounded by shrubs and herbaceous borders along with mature trees and a yew hedge. There is a gravel driveway, with off street parking for a couple of vehicles and a garage, which has an internal door back into the house.

Chute Cottage is situated in the heart of Wherwell, a beautiful village renowned for its many period houses and cottages. The village has a public house which has recently been bought and is currently undergoing a full refurbishment, a church, primary school, and village hall. It is one of Hampshire’s most photographed villages owing to its rows of very pretty timber framed thatched cottages and through which the well-known River Test flows and there are wonderful walks from the village. Stockbridge provides an excellent range of everyday amenities including a doctors' surgery. There is a post office/store in the nearby village of Chilbolton and more comprehensive facilities can be found at Andover, and within the cathedral cities of Winchester and Salisbury. The nearby town of Andover has a mainline railway station providing fast services to Waterloo. The A303 and A34 are close at hand allowing convenient access to London and the West Country. There is an excellent choice of schools in the area. As well as the village primary school there is a secondary school in Stockbridge and a selection of private schools including Farleigh School near Andover, St Swithun’s, Winchester College and The Pilgrims' School in Winchester.
