In this area is the volcano Teide, with 3718 meters the highest mountain in the Canary Islands and Spain.

This park was declared a national park on January 22, 1954 in recognition of its volcanic and biological uniqueness. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007, it has since become one of Spain's 12 treasures.
