On the opposite side of the river, after crossing a bridge, is La Magdalena, the most populated neighbourhood that emerged from the growth of the town during the peak of the coal mines, although there were already some houses and a chapel dedicated to Santa María Magdalena.
La Magdalena, despite having emerged from the growth of Canales, has a sense of identity that makes its people feel that they belong only and exclusively to the town of La Magdalena. The fact that in the official nomenclature it appears as Canales-La Magdalena demonstrates the existence of two identities.
