Description
The farmhouse, built in the early 1900s, has undergone a partial modernisation carried out a few years ago, including renovation of the external facades, the electrical system in the living area, the bathroom, together with internal painting and various improvements. The property is very suitable both for those wishing to purchase a vacation home, and also for those who really love tranquility, nature, greenery and peace, away from the usual city traffic.
Although the farmhouse is located in a quiet countryside area of the Comino Valley, it is still just a few kilometres from charming medieval hilltop towns such as the historic centre of Fontechiari, Broccostella and Casalvieri, and the riverside bustling towns of Sora and Isola del Liri.
Casale Eugenia is configured as follows: on the ground floor we have a living room with lovely old wood ceiling beams and with an open log fireplace set in a wall of beautiful exposed stone; a very large open-plan kitchen with access on to the flat roof of the garage, which roof could become a splendid alfresco dining terrace (subject to being appropriately tiled and railings fitted, all in accordance with building codes). From the entrance of the house, a spacious corridor leads to the bathroom which has an attractive wood-panelled ceiling and a spacious shower cubicle, and immediately in front of the door of one of the two entrances to the home, we find the wide staircase that leads up to the 1st floor, where we have the two bedrooms, each measuring 21 square meters, and the beautiful upper balcony and terrace, sheltered by a roof with exposed wooden beams.
Heading to the external part of the property, we find a porch in the basement, which can serve as a woodshed or covered parking space if desired, the two very large cellars, equipped with windows, which could also be enhanced to create an enchanting tavern for entertaining. In this contact, it is also noteworthy that outside one of the two cellars there is a fantastic and ancient wood-burning oven that is still working. Also in the basement area, in front of the cellars, a spacious garage of approximately 20 square meters completes the building. Last but not least, a plot of land of approximately 500 square meters surrounds the property and could be landscaped to form a lovely garden.
THE CIOCIARIA
Fontechiari is in the area of Italy called the Ciociaria, the name given to the fertile land that lies south of Rome but north of Naples, situated inland in the hills in the heart of Italy.
The Ciociaria region is within easy reach of both Rome and Naples and their respective airports. A day's shopping in Rome is a common pastime, while an even shorter drive brings you to the charming beaches south of Rome. Alternatively, drive east, and the mountains of the Abruzzo National Park await with horse trekking in the magnificent beech forests, and sparkling mountain lakes and rivers where you can swim in the heat of the summer. And at the other extreme of temperature, although the towns of the Ciocaria are temperate, less than an hour's drive brings you to the winter ski slopes.
Often overlooked, both by tourists and by those foreigners in search of an Italian home, in favour of the more publicized regions of Tuscany and Umbria, the Ciociaria remains largely an unspoilt gem with beautiful scenery and medieval hilltop towns. A home or second home in the Ciociaria, in the hilltop towns of Arpino, Veroli, Alatri or in the rolling countryside that surrounds them, will afford you a setting where over two thousand years of history combine with an idyllic rural Italian lifestyle, where you can still discover the 'real' Italy and take time out from the busy crowds of the larger tourist cities, while being less than ninety minutes journey from central Rome or either of Rome's two airports.
