The owner's suite has a private gated entrance, down a sweeping driveway, and a large garage. There are 4,000 square metres of garden, allowing privacy and tranquility, even though the house is convenient for main roads. The owner has created an attractive indoor/outdoor entertainment area, with double facing fireplace and pizza oven for year round outdoor dining.
The owner's suite has a verandah with full length sliding glass doors looking out across the gardens. A small nook in one part of it is used as a little gym area. To the rear, there is a spacious and attractive modern kitchen, with a fireplace and direct outdoor access. There are two ensuite bathrooms, and the master bedroom has a dressing area.
The back part of the property has been turned into studio and two room apartments, which are let. This part has its own separate driveway and does not overlook the owner's suite or the gardens. (It would be possible to give the rental suites access to some or all of the garden if desired, but the doors between the driveway to the rental property and the garden can also be locked off.)
The building is very near the beautiful Abbey of San Domenico, and a few minutes from the entrance to the superstrada, which joins the main A1 autostrada, giving excellent access to Rome and international airports. There are shops and services immediately near the house, and the elegant historic centre of Sora is only a couple of minutes drive away.
SORA AND THE CIOCIARIA
Sora is one of the major towns in the area of Italy called the Ciociaria, the name given to the fertile land that lies south of Rome but north of Naples, situated inland in the hills in the heart of Italy. The historic centre of Sora is charming, with a large park, and the Corso with many intersting shops and bars. The Via Cittadella has also become a feature, the old stone alley being filled with flowers and other decorations, frequent live music in the evenings, and features such as an antiquarian bookshop.
The Ciociaria region is within easy reach of both Rome and Naples and their respective airports. A day's shopping in Rome is a common pastime, while an even shorter drive brings you to the charming beaches south of Rome. Alternatively, drive east, and the mountains of the Abruzzo National Park await with horse trekking in the magnificent beech forests, and sparkling mountain lakes and rivers where you can swim in the heat of the summer. And at the other extreme of temperature, although Sora itself is temperate, less than an hour's drive brings you to the winter ski slopes.
Often overlooked, both by tourists and by those foreigners in search of an Italian home, in favour of the more publicized regions of Tuscany and Umbria, the Ciociaria remains largely an unspoilt gem with beautiful scenery and medieval hilltop towns. A home or second home in the Ciociaria, in the a busy town like Sora or in a medieval hilltop town like Arpino, Veroli or Alatri, or in the rolling countryside that surrounds them, will afford you a setting where over two thousand years of history combine with an idyllic rural Italian lifestyle, where you can still discover the 'real' Italy and take time out from the busy crowds of the larger tourist cities, while being less than ninety minutes journey from central Rome or either of Rome's two airports.
