Description
Acting on the instructions of the Quakers, we bring to the market their current Meeting House, which we feel could be of interest to a variety of users. The Meeting House was purpose built by well respected local builders 'Plaxton Building Services Ltd' and opened in April 1990. This is the Quaker's 5th site in Scarborough, after relocating from York Place due to the Brunswick Pavilion redevelopment. Previous to that, the 'Scarborough Friends' first met on Low Conduit Street (West Sandgate) in 1651 and then moved to Carr Street (Eastborough) in 1676. In 1801, they built the Meeting House on St Sepulchre Street and this still stands today.
Meeting House - this unique, detached building is accessed from Woodlands Drive and has the benefit of has an inviting covered entrance on Quaker Close with dedicate car parking for approximately 20 vehicles. The glazed entrance lobby, leads into a stunning atrium with a exposed wooden trusses, tiled floor and glass ceiling arrangement. The main 100 sq m hall lies off the atrium to the north/west of the building with the secondary hall lying to the south west. Further rooms located off the atrium include a library/office, another meeting room, toilets (male, female and disabled facilities), cleaners store and a generously sized kitchen. The property has been well maintained by the owners, albeit the commercial gas boiler is probably near the end of its useful economic life.
Bungalow - the detached 3 bedroom bungalow lies inbetween the Meeting House and the car park and has been occupied by the Wardens for many years who are due to vacate the property in April 2025. The property offers spacious living accommodation with double glazing, gas boiler and a feature upvc sunroom off the kitchen, leading out into the fenced garden. No internal photo's were taken at the warden's request.
