Description
Camelford is a town in north Cornwall, situated in the River Camel valley northwest of Bodmin Moor. The town is approximately 10 miles (16 km) north of Bodmin, Tintagel 13 minutes (5.9 miles) via B3263 and Boscastle 12 minutes (5.6 miles) via B3266. The famous Jamaica Inn built in 1776 is 26 minutes (13.6 miles) via A30, located on a high and remote spot in the middle of Cornwall's Bodmin Moor between the towns of Launceston and Bodmin, acclaimed as one of the most famous old inns in England and from Daphne du Maurier's best-selling novel published in 1936.
The A39 road (dubbed 'Atlantic Highway') passes through the town. The two main industrial enterprises in the area are the slate quarry at Delabole and the cheese factory at Davidstow and there is a small industrial estate at Highfield.
The Masons Arms occupies a prominent position on the main street surrounded by lots of independent and national retailers.
