Description
What The Owners Say
“It’s been a lovely family home for us — it’s felt safe, peaceful, and the nature all around really does wonders for your wellbeing. We’ll miss the lambs in spring, the birds, the flowers, the evening walks to Tolethorpe Hall for a play and a picnic… we’ve loved every minute of it.”
“We fell in love with the cottage immediately. The village is so picturesque, and the house had exactly what we were looking for — so much garden and garage space, but still just a stone’s throw from Stamford. It’s been the perfect balance for our family.”
Our Thoughts…
Set in the heart of the conservation village of Little Casterton — just 2.2 miles from Stamford — this beautifully presented Victorian stone cottage offers flexible living, a peaceful lifestyle, and a deep connection with nature.
It’s one of those homes that simply feels good to be in. Full of charm, character, and warmth, the cottage combines original features like exposed beams, bespoke wooden shutters and two log burners with the modern touches that make daily life flow with ease.
Step inside and the layout instantly invites you in. At the front of the house, the living room has a striking stone fireplace and log burner — a snug, peaceful retreat on cooler days. Across the hall, the dining room is full of personality, with exposed brickwork and another log burner creating a welcoming space to host and gather.
To the rear, the kitchen-diner is very much the heart of the home. Shaker-style cabinetry and terracotta floor tiles bring warmth and texture, while French doors open directly into the garden.
“It’s where we spend most of our time,” the owners say. “You can cook, chat, and look out at the garden while the kids run free — the sun pours in and it always feels bright and calm.”
Upstairs, the principal bedroom is a spacious and serene place to unwind, with built-in wardrobes and an en-suite that features both a bath and a separate shower. Two additional bedrooms, one a generous double, share a well-finished family bathroom. There’s also a large airing cupboard and thoughtful built-in storage throughout.
Tucked behind the oversized double garage is a real bonus — a fully self-contained one-bedroom annexe with its own kitchen, living/sleeping area, bathroom and separate entrance.
“It’s already kitted out as separate accommodation, so it’s perfect for guests, older relatives, or even as an Airbnb,” the owners say. “There are so many possibilities with it.”
The double garage itself is a major asset, offering plenty of space, an electric door, room for white goods and an EV charger out front. Solid wooden gates give both privacy and security to the garage and rear garden.
And then there’s the garden — southeast-facing and absolutely beautiful throughout the seasons. With a lawn, mature trees, two patio areas and a pretty summerhouse, it’s a space that adapts to your lifestyle — from peaceful mornings with a coffee to family barbecues in the evening sun. At the far end, a row of Pinot Noir grapevines adds a special touch, nodding to the garden’s past — once thoughtfully designed by Bunny Guinness. The original planting plans and photographs are still with the property.
“The way the sun falls on the garden makes everything come to life,” the owners told us. “In spring, the flowers bloom, the birds sing, and there’s always something happening — it’s so full of life. We’ve loved just being surrounded by it.”
Little Casterton is a quiet, friendly village with a strong sense of community. There’s a cricket club, a lovely church, and scenic countryside walks right on your doorstep — including a beautiful field path that leads to Tolethorpe Hall, home to open-air Shakespeare performances in the summer. Stamford, with its excellent schools, shops, and eateries, is just a few minutes away by car.
This is a home that offers so much more than four walls — it’s a lifestyle full of light, space, history, and soul. A peaceful retreat that feels part of the landscape around it.
As the owners say:
“We just hope the next people love it as much as we have. It’s a special place — it’s given us everything we hoped for and more.”
