Description
A spacious entrance hall with parquet flooring leads to the heart of the home—the open-plan kitchen. Thoughtfully designed, the kitchen features granite work surfaces, a Belfast sink, and a generous dining and living area, making it ideal for both entertaining and family life. Large windows flood the space with natural light and frame picturesque garden views, while doors open onto a covered veranda, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living. A pantry, utility room, storage room (which could serve as a study), cloakroom, and boot room add to the home’s practicality.
The three reception rooms provide ample space, with the garden room offering direct access to the beautifully landscaped rear garden. A versatile ground-floor en suite bedroom serves as a luxurious principal suite or a welcoming guest retreat. Upstairs, four additional bedrooms are well served by a family bathroom and an en suite.
The garden is a true sanctuary and a haven for wildlife. Wrapping around three sides of the house, it can be admired from nearly every window. Expansive lawns and mature specimen trees, including a stately walnut, create a serene and private setting. The carriage driveway provides ample parking and leads to the garage, with additional sheds offering further storage.
Seller Insight
“The Spinney has been our cherished family home for the past 30 years. When we first discovered it, we saw the potential to create a home that would grow with our family. After acquiring the adjoining land, we carefully extended the property to accommodate our evolving needs, all while preserving its character and the sense of space we had always envisioned.”
“We were drawn to the peaceful village of Alconbury Weston, with its rich heritage, period cottages, and the picturesque brook along Hamerton Road. It offered the perfect blend of rural charm and community spirit—an ideal setting to raise our family.”
“Over the years, we have thoughtfully enhanced The Spinney, rewiring the entire house, reconfiguring spaces for better functionality, and modernising essential features.”
“The heart of our home is undoubtedly the kitchen and conservatory. It serves as a natural gathering place, whether for family meals, lively conversations with friends, or quiet moments overlooking the garden. In the winter, the wood-burning stove fills the space with warmth, creating a snug retreat while still feeling connected to nature through the conservatory’s glass. In the summer, we throw open the doors, and the veranda seamlessly extends our living space into the garden, making it the perfect spot for relaxed outdoor dining.”
“Designed with family life in mind, The Spinney offers both room to come together and space for solitude. Over the years, the garden has adapted to our family's changing needs, from withstanding endless rugby games to becoming a haven for wildlife. We take great pride in the fact that, for three decades, we have nurtured the garden without the use of herbicides or pesticides, allowing nature to flourish.”
“For 28 years, we have been lucky enough to have the same neighbours. We look after each other’s homes, feed pets, water plants, and even exchange small joys—like fresh, free-range eggs from their chickens or the expertise of Thomas, who kindly sweeps our chimneys.”
“Alconbury and Alconbury Weston offer a wealth of amenities and community spirit. The village hall hosts a range of activities. Just beyond the village, the sports and social club provides football and cricket facilities, with its wicket even having been graced by international and first-class cricketers during charity matches. There is something quite special about a summer’s evening spent watching the cricket, pint in hand, with the willows along the brook and the church spire in the distance—a truly quintessential English experience.”
“Community groups thrive here, with activities for all ages, including Mums & Toddlers, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, the WI, and the Thursday Club, which brings elderly residents together for lunch and companionship.”
“Leaving The Spinney is not an easy decision. This house has been our sanctuary, our family’s foundation, and the backdrop to a lifetime of treasured memories. It has shaped itself around us as we have grown, and in return, we have poured love and care into every corner. We will miss it deeply.”
