Description
THE PROPERTY
Tucked away on the edge of the most picturesque village of Bothenhampton and commanding the most enviable elevated position, first glimpses of Knowle Cottage are most impressive with its most attractive facade constructed of stone under a pitched tiled roof. The property was very cleverly and sympathetically upgraded and extended ten years ago, and is now a truly wonderful home in the most stunning location.
On first entering the property there is a real sense of charm, space, and light. The property is entered on the ground floor with a hall, and reception room currently used as a study/bedroom.
The main accommodation is situated on the first floor taking full advantage of the fantastic position. The first floor boasts the most fabulous open plan accommodation, exemplifying modern living. The sitting room is exceptional with a huge amount of natural light from every aspect, including the large skylight windows. There are stunning far reaching views over the village and countryside beyond. These reception rooms are quite simply 'as good as it gets' and the main reception room is a lovely light room with high vaulted pitched ceilings and double doors leading to the paved terrace and delightful garden, an ideal place for alfresco dining and enjoying this idyllic and most tranquil setting. The proportions of this room are fantastic giving a real sense of space, and this leads perfectly into a large dining and sitting area, again with double doors opening out to the garden, which again lead perfectly into the kitchen. This wonderful kitchen incorporates a number of attractive wooden wall and base units and a four ringed gas hob and oven, with room for a breakfast table, and a large window boasts lovely views over the garden. At the far end of the kitchen is a cloakroom and very good-sized utility room.
The principal bedrooms are situated on this floor with two beautiful bedrooms, including a superb main bedroom with an en suite bathroom and large dressing area with ample wardrobe space. There is also a separate spacious family shower room.
OUTSIDE
To the rear of the property is a large and easily maintained garden with a large lawned area, very safe for children and animals, and a number of paved terraces, each coming into their own at different times of the day creating magical spaces to sit and enjoy the varying light and views. There is a large garden room which would make a superb garden office with fantastic views, a further cobbled terrace below, and a smaller garden shed. There is also a greenhouse at the other end of the garden. To the front of the property is an elevated gravelled area and another raised terrace, and plenty of off-street parking and a double garage.
All in all, this is a truly superb property in an idyllic and very convenient location
LOCATION
Bothenhampton is a most sought after and picturesque village with a village hall, church and childrens play area, and a nearby nature reserve giving access to walks across open countryside. It is tucked away a short walk from the heart of the bustling market town of Bridport, and within walking distance of local primary and secondary schools, West Bay and the famous Jurassic Coastline, a World Heritage site.
Bridport is a most attractive Georgian town that retains an excellent number of independent shops and restaurants and a thriving street market on Saturdays and Wednesdays. A choice of supermarkets is available in or around the town including a Waitrose within close walking distance, and Morrisons. There is a cottage hospital, a large medical centre, a popular leisure centre, a successful Arts Centre, two theatres, and a number of independent festivals involving the arts are held throughout the year, most notably the Bridport Literary Festival.
Much of the countryside is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where strict planning controls apply to preserve its special character. West Bay is a popular small seaside resort with harbour, shops, restaurants and attractive beach. The Dorset coast is now recognised as a World Heritage Site.
A further wider range of amenities, including a mainline railway station to London Waterloo can be found at the County Town of Dorchester, or Crewkerne.
