Bansko is located at the foot of Northern Pirin Mountain at an altitude of 927 metres. It lies 56 km from Blagoevgrad, 160 km from Plovdiv, and 160 km from Sofia. The Pirin National Park begins just outside the town. The Glazne River runs through Bansko. The mountain climate allows for snow coverage from December to April, while the alpine terrain of Pirin ensures excellent conditions for both professional and amateur skiing. Bansko also has a railway station on the Septemvri-Dobrinishte narrow-gauge line. To the southwest of the town, there are mineral springs.
