Mondoñedo is located on the northern slope of the province of Lugo, in the Autonomous Community of Galicia, belonging to the region of A Mariña Central. Mondoñedo has an area of approximately 144 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 4,800. 70 km from Lugo Capital. Mondoñedo borders the following towns and municipalities: Foz and Alfoz to the north, Riotorto, A Pastoriza and Abadín to the south, Lourenzá to the east and Abadín and Alfon again to the west. Historically, until the last third of the 19th century, Mondoñedo was the capital of the seven provinces that Galicia possessed.
Sasdónigas, officially called San Lourenzo de Sasdónigas, is a parish of this municipality and has several natural and historical attractions.
