DESCRIPTION
This fine period house is believed to have been built as a 14th Century Hall house and then added to in Tudor times when it was the Ironmasters House. It was then largely extended in the Edwardian era. It is an extraordinary house bursting with charm and originality and the bohemian and artistic flair of the previous owner’s reflected in the hand mixed colours and ragged walls in some of the rooms. It has many fine features and good ceiling heights. It is not listed. Approached down a long private tree lined drive, it forks off into a circular gravel drive around a lawn in front of the house with a flagstone path leading up to the porch. Having part brick, timber, stone and hanging tile elevations under a tiled roof. The accommodation offers a spacious Reception Hall with large inglenook, circular brick steps down into the 32’ Drawing Room with stone fireplace and French doors to the garden and a Conservatory. To the other side lies a Dining Room with raised brick fireplace, Study with book shelving, old fashioned Kitchen with Aga and gas hob and Utility Room. There are stairs leading up to the first floor, with some fine oak flooring, and doors to the western end with the Main Bedroom and Bathroom. A separate staircase leads to four further Bedrooms, a Dressing Room and Family Bathroom.

OUTSIDE
The house is surrounded by a large lawn. At the front is a timbered and tile deep Car Port. To the rear a brick terrace comes out from the Conservatory overlooking the tiered lawn with various built in stone and brick steps and beech hedging. Round the side is a deep well. On the eastern side lies a Tennis Court, in need of a little attention, and an adjoining stone and weatherboarded Studio/Summerhouse with work benches and power connected. There are many fine trees including mature beech and maple and a glorious array of flowering shrubs including magnolia, camelia, rhododendron, viburnum and red maple.

On the western side lies a large Nissen Hut, during the war an Officers Mess and more recently for the Owners’ children, when young, a pony refuge, offering potential for various uses and a small orchard.

The house and garden extend to 1.76 acres. (Further land on the south side could be made available by separate negotiation either to buy or rent).
