Description
For those looking to live in the countryside, in a substantial detached family home, with large gardens, a multi-car driveway and a double garage, look no further than Fairways.
Located at the top of a quiet lane, Fairways is one of the many individual residences along Moor End Road. It was built in 1976, and bought by the current owners in 2006, in need of TLC at the time. Even on that rainy day 18 years ago, they knew what a fantastic home this would make for their family. They refurbished early on, and the last few years have seen a new kitchen, an extension to create the garden room, and a rejig upstairs to turn the fifth bedroom into an office, and a dressing room to the principal bedroom.
The downstairs accommodation consists of large, bright rooms, set around a spacious hall. Straight ahead as you walk in the front door is a good-sized study that could be a bedroom, and to the left is a generous lounge, with super-soft carpeting, silvery patterned wallpaper, and a stunningfireplace featuring a Firebelly wood burner with exposed stone surround. Facing west, the room has French doors allowing the sunlight to stream in later in the day, and for a lovely breeze when warm. The owners spend evenings in here, especially in winter with the wood burner aglow.
Days are spent in the open-plan space at the back of the house, cooking, eating and chilling out. The garden room is particularly light, with large windows to all sides, a roof lantern, and bi-fold doors for bringing the outdoors in. The underfloor-heated Karndean flooring continues throughout, from kitchen to dining to snug.
The kitchen is fitted in grey gloss cabinetry, veined quartz surfaces, and with sparkling splashbacks. Well-equipped and with all the conveniences, there’s a deep sink with a Perrin & Rowe boiling water tap, pantry and pull-down cupboards, and integrated appliances including a Neff induction hob, oven and microwave, a Bosch dishwasher, a larder fridge, and a slim wine cooler. The adjoining utility room matches the design, and there’s an integrated fridge/freezer, space for a washing machine and a tumble dryer, a cupboard with power for charging the hoover, and access to the cloakroom.
Upstairs from the hall, there are four double bedrooms, as well as a secondary office that would also work as a nursery or a student’s study. The principal bedroom benefits from a dressing room and an en suite bathroom, bedroom two has an en suite too, and there’s a family bathroom shared by bedrooms three and four. The bedrooms at the back have beautiful views over the vistas behind.
The garden really makes the most of this countryside setting. It’s mainly lawned, with a private patio in the far corner ideal for taking in the surroundings, with a low fence that doesn’t obstruct the outlooks. Planting to the borders is mature, with an array that includes wisteria and winter jasmine, honeysuckle and hibiscus. There’s access from front to back from both sides of the house.
Set back from the road, behind electric gates and a walled boundary, the front of the plot has a block-paved driveway for multiple cars. This has had six cars parked comfortably at Christmas, and there’s also a double garage for two more if needed. There’s more mature planting, including a flowering cherry tree in the lawn, and sycamores along the driveway.
Moor End Road sees little traffic, being off the main Radwell Road and leading to a farm. This hamlet location is all about the landscape, in among fields and farmland, and with lakes and the River Great Ouse. There are so many walks on the doorstep, along the water, over to the weir, perhaps to The Sun pub at Felmersham, where you can stop for a pint and a lunch of local fare. Milton Ernest Garden Centre is a mile away for much more than plants, and Sharnbrook is next nearest for amenities, of which there are plenty. For families, Felmersham has a primary school, and Moor End Road is within catchment for Sharnbrook Academy. Bedford’s Harpur Trust schools are just a short drive away down the A6, as is the town centre with its mainline station, providing services direct into London, via Luton, and onto Gatwick and Brighton.
The owners have loved living in Radwell for nearly 20 years, their children feel lucky to have grown up here, and Fairways comes to market as a happy home in a peaceful position, perfect for your family.
