This Palace was built in the 16th century. XVI, during the reign of D. João III, and served as headquarters for Generals Solano and Kellerman when in 1807 Napoleon's Spanish and French troops occupied this area, in the so-called Napoleonic Invasion.
However, in the middle of the same year 1807, when Setúbal was recovered from foreign invaders, General José Lopes de Sousa, at the head of the national and restoration troops, also reestablished his General Headquarters in this Palace.
In 1850 it was inhabited by Carlos de Almeida Carvalho, while he carried out research into the ruins of Troia, as a Member of the Lusitanian Archaeological Society.
Later it was a primary school and its last occupation was as accommodation for the officers of the recruitment centre of the 11th barracks, opposite the Palace.
The price per m2 is below €550, well below the average value in this area and in the historic areas of the City, in similar conservation conditions.
