Description
The cottage sits atop the famous White Cliffs enjoying panoramic views out over the cliff tops across the channel to France at what is the UK's closest point to mainland Europe. The cliff tops abutting the cottage are owned and managed by The National Trust and offer delightful walks to the old Lighthouse (also National Trust) or down to The Bay, with its pebble beach, rock pools and The Coastguard pub.
Believed to have been constructed in the early 1900s, it once formed part of a larger property, this was divided in two in the 1990's with Sea Cottage retaining the main seaward facing accommodation and beautiful garden to the side which had previously been a tennis lawn. The current owners have made a number of improvements during their ownership, including a kitchen/dining room extension, which like the sitting room and principal bedroom, enjoys superb channel views. In addition, there are 3 further double bedrooms, 2 shower rooms and an inner hall/ music room.
The gardens are magical, to the front of the cottage is a lawned area with flower borders screened by hedging, from here you can sit and enjoy a superb view out over the channel, a path leads round to the former tennis lawn which is enclosed by hedging a deep flower border and mature trees. At present parking for the cottage is on the track to the front but there is ample room at the side to create a driveway and garaging (subject to the usual consents).
The village of St Margaret's at Cliffe offers newsagents/general store, post office, doctor's surgery with pharmacy, newsagent/general store, primary school (Ofsted rated as 'outstanding'), 2 pubs, The Smugglers and The Coastguard (one is on the beach, together with a café/bar), churches and two riding stables, whilst The Bay itself is sheltered for bathing, fishing, sailing etc. The cliff top to either side of The Bay is mainly in the care of the National Trust and offers some delightful walks. There are golf courses at nearby Kingsdown and Deal with St George's at Sandwich (venue of the British Open). The nearby award-winning seaside town of Deal (6 miles) offers a good range of small boutique style shops, a Saturday market and a selection of restaurants, bars and pubs. The Cathedral City of Canterbury offers an excellent shopping centre together with leisure interest, theatres, and county cricket. Excellent links to the continent via the Port of Dover the Channel Tunnel and Eurostar from London (St Pancras), 75 minutes from Martin Mill station (approx. 2 miles).
