** A quick note to explain that this was once a three bedroom bungalow but as there was no requirements for a 3rd bedroom it was simply adapted. There is an attached garage which, with the relevant planning permission, could be converted into more living accommodation if required - but talk to a professional builder first, before attempting this **
When people want a bungalow, nothing else will do. Such single mindedness has its drawbacks, however, as the comparative scarcity of these homes means competition for those that do come onto the market, is always fierce.
This is especially so in places like Mynydd Isa, where this example that's almost within sight of the village centre with its parade of shops and the Sainsbury's Local will, I am sure, be snapped up in short order, because this is only the start of its many attractions.
When we think of suburban homes with 'Lovely Gardens' these tend to come with caveats; they are often too small or too overlooked to provide the serenity we seek when relaxing or even, too much like hard work to maintain but here, this trend is firmly bucked.
Completely private and silent, bar a charming level of birdsong, this is somewhere to hide from the world but in the knowledge that should you ever actually need anything, that world is only round the corner. Sounds good so far? It gets better.....
The serenity of the home is compounded by its position at the head of a small cul-de-sac, in turn off a larger cul-de-sac and thus, passing traffic becomes a thing of distant memories.
A wide gateway leads to a sloping driveway up to the attached garage, while to the side of this, is a shallower sloping path that gives an easier passage through various raised beds to the front door. At the top of the slope the garden opens out onto a completely enclosed area of lawn which is surrounded by established trees and shrubs, ensuring utter privacy and which joins onto the larger area of garden at the top, but more of this later.
Returning to the front of the home there is a white UPVC porch providing protection for the inner front door or, somewhere to sit and admire the remarkably far reaching views. It is only from here that you realise how elevated the home is, as Mynydd Isa is not somewhere usually associated with hilly terrain...
Stepping though into the ceramic floored hallway there is a door on our left opening into the lounge.
This takes full advantage of the views and is a well proportioned and comfortable room that's easily able to cope with some of the vast settees currently so in vogue. The home has a distinctly modern feel to it, in spite of being a 1970s construction, but there is one feature that betrays its origins, though in a good way. In the centre of the main wall is a large stone fireplace, complete with its copper hood above the traditional open fire. Now, love them or hate them, there is no denying the cosy atmosphere a real fire can give as the winter rains batter the windows and you snuggle down with a book. Yes, they need cleaning out in the morning, but that is a small price to pay for the fabulous atmosphere they give out...
On the other side of the hall lies the first of the bedrooms which as you would expect, is a good sized double room. This comfortably houses space for a large chest of drawers and two separate full sized free standing wardrobes in addition to the double bed with its twin bedside cabinets. That it remains easy to move around the room with all these in place is testament to its dimensions.
Moving further into the home, we pass the ever vital "stuff" cupboard!. Now, without this, the majority of homes would disappear beneath a welter of outdoor clothing, old paint tins, wellies, Hoovers and such like, before we come to the bathroom.
Practically, this features a continuation of the ceramic floor from the hall and offers a stainless steel heated towel rail to keep the towels and you nice and toastie. There's a pedestal hand basin, lavatory and a traditional bath with a folding glass side screen to protect everything from any over enthusiastic shenanigans from the shower mounted above.
Beside here, the next door from the hall leads into the second bedroom. I hesitate to call it the principal bedroom, as it is much the same size as its predecessor, but that is not to denigrate it in any way. It comfortably contains everything you could want or need but what sets it apart, for me at least, is the view over the rear garden which is little short of captivating. If sleep eludes you here, you are indeed a troubled soul.
The final door from the hall reveals the dining room, kept delightfully bright by not only the picture window, but the set of sliding patio doors opening onto the garden and which mean that the outside can be allowed indoors, should your mood and the weather permit.
This is a very spacious room, allowing for the sort of furniture necessary to satisfy those with an enthusiasm for formal dinner parties, but not so big as to make anyone dining alone feel like Billy-no-Mates. The dining room has an added dimension in that an archway through to the kitchen has the effect of making the two feel part of one another and makes it so much more of a social space, with the chef being able to remain in the thick of the action throughout the night or day. The kitchen itself is comprehensively equipped with fitted units to three of the walls and which, along with more than generous storage space, provides a full range of expected white goods.
Through the back door we find a covered porch area, off which are the doors into the rear of the garage and the boiler room respectively.
About the garage, there is little to say other than it is fitted with light and power and seems dry and in good order. Though quite how a garage can be in poor order defeats me...
The boiler room is just what it says and contains some storage space for odds and ends along with the oil fired boiler that powers the central heating. This has remained trouble free for the present owner for a good number of years and has proved no more expensive to run than a comparable gas powered unit.
Outside from here we step into the wonderland that is the garden, a series of defined areas each with its own character and outlook and all with the privacy that comes as a given. A central lawn circumvented by paths and dotted with raised rockeries manages to look complex and interesting but remains easy to maintain, leaving more time to simply enjoy the surroundings which after all, is the main reason for having a garden at all.

All in all this is the Holy Grail for bungalow hunters. Buyers of this type of home tend to be older folk who are down-sizing and so two beds are more than enough. It's also for people who love gardening and privacy while doing so. This particular example is well finished, nicely equipped and in excellent general order, so apart from the desire to put your own stamp on it to make it feel truly yours, there is little to do. Its convenient position, within a few moments walk of a fairly comprehensive array of local shops is another bonus, conspiring to make a strong argument to come and view.
