Description

Characterised by clean architectural lines and a vibrant use of colour, this brilliant apartment sits in Murdoch Court, a new apartment block overlooking the River Lea in Hackney Wick. A generous enclosed balcony faces east, inviting in a beautiful quality of light - particularly in the mornings. Hackney Wick is home to some excellent restaurants and bars, while Victoria Park is mere minutes away on foot.

The Tour

The apartment sits on the sixth floor, accessed via immaculately presented communal areas and is accessed via a lift or staircase.

Its front door opens to an L-shaped hallway with walls painted an electric blue. The colour is repeated around the doorway that divides the hall from the living space beyond - a testament to the design's eye for detail.

The open-plan living spaces lie at the opposite end with a generous provision of glazing that ensures brightness throughout the day. The current owners have paid particular attention to the bones of space, carefully uncovering a concrete pillar and picking out the skirting in a lively grassy green.

The kitchen stretches the breadth of the room, comprised of muted grey and white cabinetry. A mirrored splashback bounces light around the room.

A generous bedroom extends from the hallway, with plenty of wardrobe space concealed behind white-washed sliding doors. Terracotta-red skirting brilliantly offsets an otherwise monochromatic palette with a deep-grey painted ceiling.

The bathroom is largely executed in neutral tiles, complemented by an burnt orange wall.

Outdoor Space

Sliding glazed doors open onto an east-facing balcony, paved with large porcelain tiles. In the summer months, due to its enclosed figuration, it acts as an additional 'room', adding wonderful sense of extension to the interior plan.

The Area

Murdoch Court is a new architectural development in the heart of Hackney Wick, a short walk from the surrounding parks, canals and rivers. On the eastern side lies the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park; on the other is the beautiful expanse of greenery that is Victoria Park, home to a popular farmers' market and street food stalls on Sundays. To the north are the inimitable and restorative Hackney Marshes.

Victoria Park is minutes away on foot and is home to two brilliant coffee shops: Pavilion, known for its baked goods, and the newer Blas. Chisenhale Gallery is also nearby; there are several galleries in Bethnal Green too, including Maureen Paley, as well as Claire du Rouen books.

Victoria Park Village, with its excellent food and drink scene, is just across the park. Neighbourhood favourites include The Ginger Pig butchers, Gail’s and Pophams bakery, Bad Coffee, Bottle Apostle and Jonathan Norris Fishmongers.

The Michelin-starred Cornerstone, by Tom Brown, is a short walk away, and the zero-waste restaurant Silo is an inspirational and delicious place for dinner. The local stalwart Crate brewery and pizzeria is a great relaxed hang-out, as is The Library of Things, an excellent spot to borrow tools and other household equipment.

The Olympic Park and the Hackney Marshes provide wonderful facilities for running, cycling and swimming or merely taking a gentle stroll surrounded by nature.

Hackney Wick Overground is a 13-minute walk away and runs Mildmay line services. Stratford is one stop away on the Overground, providing links to Jubilee, Central and Elizabeth lines and DLR services, There are excellent bus links into central and east London; a direct bus from Victoria Park to Canary Wharf takes around 20 minutes.
