Lowscales Bank woodland is a replanted plantation comprising of mixed conifers and a range of broadleaved trees of about 15 years of age. The woodland sits above the Po-House road and is accessed on foot by a path above the stone wall crossing an area of natural woodland and open hill ground.
The woodland is now well established and will benefit from thinning and has scope to be a productive plantation or for the conifers to be reduced to develop a more natural woodland.
The views from the bank are superb and the woodland offers an opportunity to enjoy total peace and seclusion.
General Description
The woodland is located on Lowscales Bank 2km East of the Lake District Village of Silecroft and 2.5km North-West of Millom in South-West Cumbria. The woodland sits above the Po-House road and is accessed on foot by a path above the stone wall crossing an area of natural woodland and open hill ground or via a footpath and track line across open access land to the North East.
Lowscales Bank woodland is a replanted plantation comprising of mixed conifers and a range of mixed broadleaved trees of about 15 years of age. The plantation was felled around 2005 with the timber extracted using the tracks down Po-House bank to the west. There is no formal right of access via this route and an agreement was reached with the adjoining landowner. There is no vehicle access via the track to the East but the adjoining open hill ground is open access land and this can be accessed on foot by a public footpath.
The Boundaries are mainly stone walls in reasonable repair and a deer fence was used to help establish the replanted woodland which is now in poor repair.
