Description

A truly stunning church conversion offering stylish living whilst drenched in historic charm
Church House is a one-of-a-kind residence steeped in history and soul. Once a Methodist Church, now a character-filled five bedroom home with original stained glass, a striking tower, and award-winning design.

Description - A Landmark Residence in the Heart of Fillongley

Discreetly tucked away just off the High Street, yet moments from open countryside, Church House presents a truly rare offering - a remarkable conversion of a former Methodist Church, rich with history, architectural character, and exceptional presence. Set within approximately one-third of an acre, this unique home seamlessly fuses ecclesiastical charm with modern comfort to create an inspiring and versatile living environment.

Originally converted into a residence over 35 years ago and thoughtfully extended in the early 1990s, the property has been meticulously maintained and sympathetically enhanced to retain many original features. Expect intricate plasterwork, decorative wall mouldings, and striking repurposed stained glass which nod to the building’s spiritual heritage. One of the most compelling features is the grand church tower, with its dramatic “glazed hatch” entry a true talking point and centrepiece of the home’s story.

The interior of Church House blends architectural charm with a spacious, adaptable layout perfect for modern family life and entertaining.

At the heart of the home is the striking sitting room, formerly the Sunday School room, now a grand living space brimming with soul. Featuring soaring ceilings and a preserved section of the original pulpit an extraordinary reminder of the building’s rich heritage.

Flowing from the Sitting Room is the Kitchen / Breakfast room, recently updated and beautifully appointed, with a substantial central island ideal for informal meals and social gatherings. Adjacent is the Conservatory, positioned to enjoy tranquil views of the mature rear garden offering the perfect setting for peaceful mornings or sunset evenings.

To the front of the property sits a generous Dining Room, ideal for formal entertaining, while a separate Study offers an ideal work from home solution or reading retreat.

Off the kitchen, the Utility Room offers ample practical space and leads to a private annexe wing a truly versatile area that includes a gym, tool room, store, and an independent staircase rising to a first-floor bedroom and bathroom ideal for guests, multi-generational living, or even separate rental use.

The ground floor is completed by a cloakroom and WC, all set behind a welcoming central entrance hall that echoes the home’s character and unique history.
The first floor of Church House continues to impress, offering well-proportioned bedrooms, thoughtful storage, and a sense of refined comfort throughout.

The principal suite is a true highlight with dual-aspect windows, bespoke built-in wardrobes, and ample space for both rest and relaxation. A private en-suite shower room completes the space, offering both privacy and convenience.

Three further bedrooms, each with built-in wardrobes offer excellent flexibility for family living, guest accommodation, or even a dedicated dressing room or hobby space. Bedroom two is particularly generous in size and ideally placed adjacent to the family bathroom, which features a full bath and separate shower.

The first floor landing also enjoys natural light and glimpses of the bell tower, a subtle architectural reminder of the building’s heritage. Whether hosting guests or accommodating a growing family, the upstairs layout delivers a rare balance of charm, practicality, and presence.

The interior of Church House blends architectural charm with a spacious, adaptable layout perfect for modern family life and entertaining.

Award Winning

This award-winning conversion was recognised with a Civic Award by North Warwickshire Borough Council in 1984, honouring the exemplary standard of craftsmanship involved in transforming the church into a family residence. The commemorative plaque remains proudly displayed at the entrance.

Homes of this calibre and provenance are exceptionally rare. Viewing is highly recommended to fully appreciate the scale, detailing, and atmosphere this one-of-a-kind residence has to offer.

The Grounds

Set within approximately one-third of an acre, the grounds of Church House are a true extension of its charm -private, picturesque, and meticulously nurtured.

To the rear, a beautifully landscaped garden unfolds in layers of mature planting, sweeping lawn, and colourful borders. A thoughtfully positioned patio terrace provides the perfect setting for al fresco dining or peaceful morning coffee, while the adjoining conservatory offers a seamless indoor-outdoor connection with uninterrupted garden views.

Climbing greenery softens the red brick of the former church façade, adding a romantic, timeless quality to the home’s exterior. A glass greenhouse sits discreetly at the edge of the lawn ideal for those with a passion for growing.

The front garden is beautifully framed by mature hedging, offering both privacy and a lush, green border to the property. The approach to the property is both charming and discreet, with an entrance leading to a tarmac driveway offering parking. Climbing plants near the entrance arch add character and blend seamlessly with the period brickwork.

Sellers Story - It was love at first sight. Like a lot of people, we were in the habit of scrolling RightMove from time to time for dream houses and when we saw the church we just fell in love with it. After doing a cheeky drive-by of the house, seeing the village and stopping in for a drink at the pub, we knew we had to have it.

What we didn’t bank on was moving during lockdown which was certainly an experience with 3 children, 2 dogs and no movers due to restrictions. However the exhaustion of the day didn’t dampen the excitement - the floor picnic that first night of takeout pizza and champagne didn’t hurt either. My son joined Bournebrook School which was a brilliant experience for him. It’s a lovely village school and enabled him to quickly make friends.

On a weekend morning, there’s no better spot than relaxing in the garden room. David likes sipping coffee, birdwatching and seeing the garden moving through the seasons. I like to rock in the egg chair, book in hand and snuggled with the dogs whilst we decide how to spend the day. Otherwise, the kitchen really is the heart of the home. We designed it to be a space we can enjoy as a family as well as the perfect spot for hosting. The bar sits where the original organ would have and we left space for dancing – something we made the most of on lockdown weekends (and ever since). On the other hand, in colder months and over Christmas, nowhere is cosier than the living room with the log burner on, a cosy blanket, watching the sunset over the garden with pillar candles glowing in the windows.

The village has a really active community and one of the stand-out features is the army of knitters that decorate the village to celebrate events. We’ve had poppy cascades, Diamond Jubilee celebrations and recently VE day themed ones too.

We will miss the flexibility the house offers. When we first moved in – even as we were unpacking the moving van – we had people stopping by telling us how much they loved the house. People sharing stories of the great parties that the previous owners had hosted. A local artist dropped by too to talk about the property (the previous owners were kind enough to gift us her painting of the property) and the memories of people in the village. It’s quite something to think that people have been married, baptised, schooled and come together as a community in what is now your home.

Enjoyed most though? Being able to host friends and family. The sunset is best viewed from the garden so we’ve enjoyed many a BBQ or get together that spills into a kitchen disco then wind down drinks on the patio with enough space for guests to stay over.

The house really comes into its own at Christmas. Decorating the stairwell with foliage, filling the hall with the tallest Christmas tree we can haul in the car and decorating the house with candles and fairy lights feels magical. The dining room size means we can accommodate the whole family for the festivities.

If we could pick up and move the house, we would in a heartbeat. We’re moving out of area to be closer to the mountain biking/ hiking spots we’re seeking out on weekends. However we’ll miss having so many lovely walks right from the doorstep; picking wild garlic near the brook in spring; enjoying the cornfields surrounding the village and stomping through Corley Moor for a wintery walk.
