Description

An outstanding period property with spacious accommodation and far reaching rural views

Description

Cilcain Hall is a fine period property that sits well within its own impressive grounds and takes in far reaching rural views over the Welsh countryside. The Hall has been painstakingly renovated by the current owners during their tenure and this has resulted in the creation of an outstanding family home.

Construction started on the hall in 1875 & was completed two years later in 1877. The date & inscription is carved in stone above the front door. The Architect for the design was John Douglas a very well known Architect based in Chester whose works include Royal Estates, The Gladstone Library in Hawarden, Thornton Manor, Hillbark Farm Frankby & Mold Church. Some of the timbers from the original Elizabethan house on the site where used both at Cilcain Hall & Mold Church.

Originally Cilcain Hall, a stone built house with red tile roof with some Elizabethan elements, formed the main estate house for whole estate which was considerable in size stretching down the Denbigh road almost to Hendre. The original gate house for the estate can still be seen off the Denbigh Road where the original main entrance was.

The house was built for W.B. Buddicom & his French spouse Marie Jeanne Hownsm There is a carved detail above the original stained glass window with initials above B (Buddicom) & below W & M (William & Marie) William Barber Buddicom (1 July 1816–4 August 1887) was a wealthy British mechanical & civil engineer best known for his pioneering achievements in innovating and expanding railway and locomotive transport through Europe during the mid 19th century.

A beautiful tree lined driveway leads up to the house and a large parking area.

The downstairs accommodation comprises an impressive entrance hall with wood paneling and galleried landing, living room, sitting room, office, spacious dining room, WC, utility and a large open plan kitchen/living dining area which has a range of high quality fitted units and appliances. The downstairs accommodation offers so much space for entertaining and the period features gives the house charm throughout. There is access to the first floor via a second staircase with stair lift.

The first floor is accessed via an original staircase off the main reception hall and the accommodation comprises 3 large bedrooms with en suites, a further 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are wonderful views out over the land and surrounding countryside.

The grounds are a real feature of Cilcain Hall and the beautiful landscaped gardens extend to over 3 acres. They include a range of specimen plants and trees together with lawns and a feature fountain. Beside the house is a garage, bar area, a shed for storage, there is also a beautiful walled courtyard and garden at the rear which is an ideal place for entertaining.

Location

Despite its lovely rural setting, Cilcain Hall is only 6 miles from the historic market town of Mold, which offers excellent everyday facilities and is home to one of Wales’ leading theatres, Theatr Clwyd. There are four golf clubs within a short drive, including Northop and Padeswood. The historic city of Chester is within a half hour drive with a comprehensive range of shopping, restaurants, leisure and culture, including the City Walls, the racecourse, the Cathedral, and Storyhouse theatre. There are many beautiful scenic walks and cycle routes nearby.
