“’t Jachthuis,” as an old deed calls it, is a wonderful country house. It is surrounded by a wide moat and stands in one of the oldest, prettiest forests in the Netherlands. In the 1800s these woods, near the city of Breda, belonged to Prince Frederik. Today the Liesbos forest, where the house is, is owned by the Dutch Forestry Service. Here, just west of Breda and Prinsenbeek, you live quietly, close to nature.
The house is about 300 m² inside. It is perfect for a family, for welcoming guests, or for working from home. With its beautiful garden and full privacy, it is a rare chance not to miss.

Layout

Arrival
From the Leursebaan road you turn through a smart gate onto the driveway. You can park in the double garage inside the house or under a large carport for three cars. The entrance shows classic style and charm. When you step inside, you feel at home—and also a bit like you are on holiday.

Ground floor
The big hall has a staircase, coat space, and guest toilet. Dark wooden floors and a wide stair with a runner give a classic look. At the end of the hall a door leads to the double garage.
The living area—a large sitting room with a fireplace and a fine dining room—faces the garden and a covered terrace. Large windows let in plenty of light.
From the dining room or the hall you reach the closed country-style kitchen. The solid-wood kitchen is strong but ready to be renewed, so you can add modern cooking wishes. A side door brings you straight from the kitchen to the side garden.

Basement
Behind one door in the hall a stair goes down to the basement. Here are a technical room and a wine / storage cellar; part of it is now used as a laundry.

First floor
Take the main stair to a wide landing with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Several rooms have built-in closets, and the back bedrooms open onto a big balcony with a great view of the garden.
The main bathroom has a bath, shower, toilet, cupboards, and double sink. A second bathroom for children or guests has a shower, toilet, and sink.
A second stair from the hall leads to a large work / bedroom above the garage. Big windows make this another fine space. It connects directly to the master bedroom, like a hotel suite.

Attic
A loft ladder reaches a storage attic about two metres high at the top point.

Garden
If the house has not convinced you yet, the garden will. It feels like a private park: green lawn, varied plants, a covered terrace, and a large pond. A moat surrounds the garden, and on three sides it borders the forest—so forest animals often visit in the morning.

Nice to know
Long ago the Liesbos was used for hunting by noble families like the Oranje-Nassaus and for wood production. A bank around the forest kept wild animals in and farm animals out. The area between Breda, Prinsenbeek, and Etten-Leur is locally called Quatre Bras. The crossing of Leursebaan and Zanddreef, where ’t Jachthuis stands, got this name after the Battle of Quatre Bras near Brussels in 1815, just before Waterloo. Today it is a unique place to live: outside the city yet only 15 minutes from Breda’s centre. Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Tilburg are all within a 45-minute drive.
