Description
ABOUT THIS HOUSE
Nestled within the picturesque Duntisbourne valley, Duntisbourne Leer Farmhouse is a Grade II listed residence of exceptional character and historical significance. Believed to date from the 15th century with an 18th-century extension, this charming Cotswold stone farmhouse offers a harmonious blend of period features, modern comforts and versatile family accommodation.
Approached via a private, gently winding lane, the charm of Duntisbourne Leer Farm extends well beyond the main house. Set discreetly around a sheltered courtyard, the property enjoys a magnificent collection of traditional Cotswold stone outbuildings, each steeped in rural authenticity and thoughtfully positioned to create both privacy and practicality.
At the heart of this ensemble stands a striking Cotswold stone barn—an imposing structure with soaring beams, original stonework, and barn doors that speak of its agricultural past. Whether reimagined as a spectacular entertaining space, studio, or ancillary accommodation (subject to the necessary consents), the barn offers exceptional versatility with no compromise on character.
Flanking the barn are a number of beautifully preserved outbuildings - stables, workshops, and stores. These provide ideal scope for a variety of uses, including garaging, home offices, or further guest accommodation.
The house is embraced by its gardens, which unfold gently from the courtyard, flowing seamlessly into the open landscape beyond. A series of gravel paths meander through the grounds, leading to hidden corners and sunny terraces, perfect for quiet contemplation or convivial summer gatherings.
Duntisbourne Leer Farmhouse presents a rare opportunity to acquire a historic Cotswold residence, rich in character and set within a tranquil rural setting. Its combination of period features, historical significance, and picturesque location makes it a truly unique property.

ABOUT THIS AREA
Duntisbourne Leer is one of four Duntisbourne villages built along the valley of the river Dunt. The name of the river originates from the old English ’stream of a man called Dunt’. The hamlet belonged to the Abbey of Lyre in Normandy (the name Leer comes from Lyre), as recorded in the Domesday book in which there is a property recorded in the farm’s position. Duntisbourne Leer Farm lies amidst some of the Cotswolds most attractive, unspoilt countryside and is a particularly classic village characterised by pretty period cottages and houses.
Cirencester, which is deservedly known as ‘The capital of the Cotswolds’ is an historic Roman town which became an important centre for the wool trade in medieval times. Today it is a thriving market town. Shopping in Cirencester is highly regarded, off the main streets there are many interesting back lanes with specialist shops, particularly Black Jack Street.
Communications links are excellent: there is a fast and regular Great Western Train service from Kemble to London Paddington which takes approximately 75 minutes with stops at Swindon, Didcot and Reading and road communications via the A419/417 dual carriageway offer good access to Junction 15 (M4) at Swindon and Junction 11a (M5) at Gloucester, making the main centres of Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Oxford within easy daily commuting distance.
Gloucestershire is renowned for its excellent selection of schools. Local private schools include Beaudesert Park, Kings School, Wycliffe College, Cheltenham College, Cheltenham Ladies College, Rendcomb, Marlborough and Westonbirt. Additionally, there are a number of local state schools as well as seven highly regarded Grammar Schools, including Stroud High and Marling School in Stroud, and Pate's Grammar School in Cheltenham.
