Description
Seller Insight:
What is your favourite room in the house and why?
It's a hard choice for me between the living room and the main bedroom. They're both spacious, with unique stonework and beams. Probably the living room wins because of its high ceilings and light from three compass points, and for its view into the garden.
Who do you think will be the ideal new owner?
Somebody who enjoys an active village, a home that gives an individual sense of style, and a feeling of peace. And if they're a walker, there's access within a minute's distance from the house to some of the 161 footpaths that radiate across the local countryside - perfect for dog owners. A gardener might enjoy the cottage garden.
What do you love most and why?
The house is very easy to live in with its open plan layout. I love its history (the village museum has photos of it going back to its times as a Victorian school). I also enjoy that it's one of a kind. There's no other house exactly like it anywhere.
What do you love about the local community?
Purton is a friendly, active community, catering for all sorts of interests, from open garden days to village theatre to sports. It's inclusive and lively.
How easy is it to commute from here?
Swindon railway station is a short drive, or you can be on the M4 in minutes.
What made you choose this property over others?
All of the above!
Accommodation Summary:
Tucked away in a secluded position just off Purton High Street, Old School Court was sympathetically converted in 2018 from the former local school which dated back to 1884, into an exclusive, private development of just seven unique homes.
From the front door, you can be just a short walk away from local shops and pubs, or just 15 minutes away from the Cotswolds by car. Purton is one of those villages where you really do get the “best of both” when it comes to the convenience of having local amenities around you as well as easy access to beautiful open countryside.
Ground Floor:
The living space within 1 Old School Court is extraordinary. As you enter the room from the spacious entrance hall, the eye is immediately drawn to the double-height, vaulted ceiling and the striking, multi-pane stone mullion windows which allow light to pour into the room. The living space is then open plan to the smart, fitted kitchen with plenty of room for dining.
Also located on the ground floor are the two guest bedrooms and family bathroom.
First Floor:
The first floor is dedicated to the impressive master bedroom suite with a fabulous viewing gallery overlooking the living area. The master bedroom also benefits from an en-suite shower room.
Outside:
Outside, 1 Old School Court benefits from a mature, private garden which has been beautifully planted with a variety of flowers and fruit trees.
Parking:
There are two allocated parking spaces in the courtyard alongside allocated visitor parking for the development.
Location:
The house is situated just off of Purton’s charming High Street and moments from the amenities. The village has a Co-op and other convenience stores, along with an organic farm shop, pharmacy, medieval church and a primary school. There are also active sports clubs including cricket and tennis, a community library, and access to numerous footpaths through the surrounding countryside. Everyday shopping needs are well served by the pretty market towns of Cirencester and Malmesbury. Both have weekly and artisan markets and large supermarkets as well as independent boutique shops and cafés. Sporting opportunities include all manner of water sports at the Cotswold Water Park, just nine miles away, excellent cycling and running routes on quiet country roads, and golf at Basset Down and Ogbourne Downs clubs.
Local schooling options include the Cheltenham colleges, Wycliffe, Rencombe and Marlborough College, with a variety of state primary and secondary schools between Swindon and Cirencester. National road and rail links are easily accessible via the M4 and Swindon Train Station, both approximately five miles away.
