Description

A Grade II listed 16th-century terraced and thatched cottage on a 0.2 acre plot of garden, with off street parking and a double garage in the centre of Wendover. The property is part of a timber framed row of Tudor cottages. A wooden front door leads to an entrance hall/family room with a window over the front and an oak staircase rising to the first floor. Doors either side open to the sitting/dining room and the snug/bedroom three, with two front windows and a brick fireplace. The sitting/dining opens to the kitchen which has three windows overlooking and a door to the rear terrace. The beamed upstairs landing, like the bedrooms, has a vaulted ceiling and could be used as a study. A door leads to the principal suite which has a dressing area, a three piece en suite shower room and a walk-in wardrobe. Bedroom two has two windows and a fitted wardrobe.

The row is said to have been a gift from Henry VIII to his wife Ann Boleyn. Throughout the house there are retained features such as latch and brace doors, exposed beams, leaded casement windows, and fireplaces. There is gas central heating to radiators from a newly fitted boiler (May 2025).

Kitchen and Utility Room

The kitchen is at the rear of the property and has a pitched ceiling. Shaker style base and wall units line one side of the room and house an integrated double oven, an induction hob, a dishwasher, and a fridge/freezer. A ceramic sink is fitted into a wooden work surface and matches the window sills on the opposite wall. Opposite the rear stable door, is a fitted wooden store cupboard. The terracotta tiled utility room, has a butler’s sink and a cupboard which houses the boiler. A door leads into a modern, tiled three piece shower room.

Reception Rooms

Originally two separate rooms, the 23 ft. by 15 ft. sitting/dining room has had the wall below the spine beam removed to create a more open space, leaving the vertical beams. An electric log burning stove has been fitted into the brick inglenook fireplace and the flooring has been replaced with oak boards which flow into the entrance hall and beyond into the snug/bedroom three, which has a feature fireplace with inset shelves and storage cupboards either side.

Outside

The entire plot is approximately 0.2 acres and has been professionally landscaped. A paved terrace spanning the full width of the house is accessible from the kitchen and from the separate utility room. From the terrace, you can access the greenhouse and brick store. A block paved path weaves past a shaped lawn with established borders and under a wisteria-covered arbour. This leads to a mown meadow area, enclosed by beech trees and fencing. A side gate leads to a double garage and an off street parking space.
