Description
The main entrance to the house is accessed from a stone paved courtyard, with the door opening into the main living area. An impressive stone arch divides this space and a wood burner has been installed in what was once the traditional wood oven. The wood beamed ceilings, and stone finishes have all been maintained honouring this beautiful old Cretan home.
A fully fitted modern kitchen can be found to the left of the entrance, fitted with all electrical appliances and storage cabinets. The rest of the main living area is divided into a living room and a separate dining area.
From the kitchen, stairs take you down to a lower floor with a double bedroom, which has a private entrance and terrace. Adjacent to the bedroom is a bathroom and next to that is a laundry and storage room. The boiler necessary for the central heating is also located in another room adjacent to the laundry.
In the main living area, there is another wooden staircase with the first steps taking you up to another double bedroom with a private balcony. This room could be used as another living room or extra entertainment area.
The remainder of the steps take you up to another two double bedrooms both en-suite with private balconies. The one bedroom has the roof terrace as a balcony or outdoor space.
There is a private heated swimming pool with stone paving around the pool. The garden is terraced and on various levels with stone stairs and paving weaving through the plants and trees. There is automatic irrigation with various fruit trees such as orange, lemons, pomegranate, avocados, plum and olive trees.
In the authentic main village square you'll find a mini market, a local bakery, an old fashioned Greek kafeneio, and a family run taverna serving the best local delicacies.
The Tower of Alidakis, built around the 16th century and the impressive stone Amphitheatre dated to modern times, are the nearest and within walking distance main attractions of the area.
A beautiful area and exciting history like everywhere on the island. It is uncertain where the name comes from. It means the water in front, embros nero. Some believe it comes from the fact that the first thing you encounter are springs, others that it is the first place it rains in the area, when there is a storm, but the last source says that the name is from Venetian times and has changed over the years. The village was supposedly called Pronineros, the village of the chosen ones!
A good mix of all eras, old ruins, Venetian, and the 60s side by side, and some new houses in between. Here people have lived on olives, grapes and animals in all eras.
Approximately a 40-minute drive to the towns of Chania and Rethymnon, as well the southern village of Sfakia from where you can take day trips along the coast of the Libyan Sea and explore its hidden gems such as the villages of Loutro and Agia Roumeli by the exit of the Samaria Gorge. The nearest seaside village is Georgioupoli with its 18 km sandy beach, is only a 20 min drive from the village.
