Long Thurlow is an attractive hamlet approximately 1 mile from the village of Badwell Ash, which lies some 9 miles northeast of the medieval market town of Bury St Edmunds. Badwell Ash offers a range of local facilities, which include a fine church, a welcoming public house and local shops including a fish and chip shop and local store. The nearby village of Walsham Le Willows also offers further opportunities for every day shopping including a well-regarded delicatessen/butcher. Elmswell also provides good further facilities such as a Co-op store, link line train station, primary school, pharmacy and vet. More extensive facilities can be found in the Cathedral town of Bury St Edmunds. The town offers an excellent range of amenities, with schooling in the public and private sector's, extensive shopping facilities and a good range of leisure facilities including health clubs, swimming pools and golf clubs. There is good access to the A14, A11 (M11) and A12 past Ipswich, and the railway station at Stowmarket offers mainline services to London's Liverpool Street taking approximately 80 minutes
