Visit Bute - A Scottish Island Paradise
Bute is an island of two halves. Bisected by the Highland boundary fault, there are Highland areas situated to the north of the fault line and lowlands to the south - and all this is in a place that is just 15 miles long by 4 miles wide! However, its geology is just one of the factors that make Bute a brilliant place to visit. Wildlife, gardens and wonderful walking – it’s all here. Make the short hop from the mainland to discover nature’s paradise!

There really is something for everyone on Bute. The main towns are clustered around two bays on the eastern side of the island, leaving the west side relatively free of people which makes it great for cycling, birdwatching and other outdoor activities.

The property is unlikely to form suitable security for traditional mortgage lending and will be available on a cash purchase basis only. We have attempted to reflect this in our overall opinion of market value.

Getting to Bute
Bute is considered the most accessible island off the west coast of Scotland. It’s just 50 minutes away from Glasgow by road or rail, followed by a 35-minute CalMac ferry crossing from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay. Another CalMac ferry runs from Colintraive to Rhubodach, taking less than five minutes.

Local information about Greenock

The historic town of Greenock lies at the mouth of the River Clyde, known locally as the Tail of the Bank. The area's charming maritime history is still on show at the Custom House Museum, as well as through the countless impressive Victorian buildings that still stand tall in the town. None stands as high as the 245-foot Victoria Tower - which is a focal point of the town.

Other landmarks include the McLean Museum and the Old West Kirk church, which boasts stained glass windows by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The Greenock Cut aqueduct is one of Scotland's finest walks and offers panoramic views over the Clyde.

The town is located at the end of the M8 motorway and has remarkable nine railways stations, linking to locations such as Glasgow, Gourock, Inverkip and Wemyss Bay.
