Description

Fairfield is a particularly attractive semi-detached residence which sits in a tucked away position on Barline, one of Beer’s most sought-after roads. It is conveniently placed being within a short walk of the village amenities and Beer’s glorious cove, presenting superb south easterly views over the rooftops to the Jubilee Gardens and sea. The property itself was built in the early 1900s and is of traditional construction with rendered elevations under a principally tiled roof. It was designed by the renowned architect David Carr who was responsible for many of Beer’s fine period homes and was heavily influenced by the Art & Crafts movement, retaining a wealth of character with some superb features such as the attractive arched doors, galleried staircase and several handsome original Beerstone fireplaces.

You enter the property through the front conservatory where you are initially struck by the superb views. From here there is a heavy arched front door leading through to the galleried stair hall where there is an understairs cupboard and a boiler cupboard. The bright drawing room sits at the front of the house and has a handsome stone fireplace and the dining room also has a stone fireplace with attractive glazed cupboards to the chimney recesses and the original timber windows.

The kitchen/breakfast room is a generous size and this opens into a very useful utility room which has stable doors to the front path and into a small courtyard to the rear of the house. There is also a ground floor cloakroom. On the first floor there is a principal bedroom which has superb sea views and a deep cupboard area. There are two further double bedrooms and a bath/shower room.

Although Fairfield would now benefit from a level of updating, it offers the perfect opportunity for those looking to put their stamp on a handsome period home in one of Beer’s most sought-after addresses.

GARDENS & GROUNDS.
Fairfield benefits from a good-sized garden which takes full advantage of the glorious views over a picturesque village scene with the backdrop of the sea beyond. There is a terrace adjoining the house with steps leading down to a lower seating area where there is a pond. From here there is an area of lawn which is interspersed with profusely stocked shrub beds and several mature trees. From the garden there are two pedestrian accesses onto Pig’s Path which gives an easy and convenient route into the village. The property also benefits from parking and a detached garage off Barline.

SITUATION.
Beer is a typical example of an unspoilt Devon fishing village and has a variety of shopping and recreational amenities such as restaurants, public houses, post office, galleries, primary school and sailing club. Glorious country and coastal walks emanate from the doorstep over a myriad of footpaths which include the South West Peninsular Coastal Path from which there are stunning views over this dramatic stretch of coastline. The Regency town of Sidmouth lies some 8 miles to the west and is one of East Devon's premier coastal resorts with beautiful parks and an excellent variety of independent shops, along with a cinema, theatre and range of sporting facilities. The market town of Axminster is about 9 miles away and has a main line rail link to London Waterloo, and the Cathedral City of Exeter is approx. 23 miles distant with excellent shopping facilities, express rail link to London Paddington, international airport and M5 access.

DIRECTIONS.
From the centre of the village, proceed up Fore Street into Causeway and on a sharp right-hand bend continue straight over onto Townsend. Take the next left into Mare Lane then another left into Barline. Follow the road to a right-hand bend where Fairfield will be found on the left-hand side.
