Location and Amenities
The small North Yorkshire village of Picton is surrounded by green fields, rolling hills and meandering streams and is an ideal spot for horse riding, walking, cycling and other outdoor activities. With picturesque and idyllic views, you truly feel away from it all here and yet Yarm is just a short distance away.
Picton’s The Station, a lovely country pub, was refurbished in 2023. Here you are promised a warm welcome, wonderful views, roaring open fires, great food and real ales. There is a welcome for dogs too. A rave review about the food appeared in The D&S Times this year.
Just over 2 miles away in Crathorne, there is the Five Houses Farm Shop, Deli & Kitchen, with its speciality and local produce, including weekly essentials, high-welfare meat, famous pork pies, fine chesses, fresh bread and wine. The Kitchen is a lovely place for a leisurely breakfast, coffee and cake or delicious lunch.
Although small, Picton has a good sense of community and hosts an annual show each July, with horse, dog, craft and horticulture competitions, along with traditional games and races for children.
The beautiful market town of Yarm is close by with its Georgian high street lined with independent shops, restaurants and cafés, all set against the backdrop of the River Tees. Yarm is also known for its excellent schools, including both state and private options.
