The town has a good range of small shops and businesses catering for most day to day needs and has an active resident population supporting a number of clubs and associations.

Main line railway connection can be made at Par about 4 miles to the west. The large commercial town of St. Austell, about 8 miles to the west, provides a number of out of town super stores.
