Description

Description

Currently closed and in need of refurbishment in areas, the hotel is a striking building constructed mostly of stone attached to a former Tudor coaching inn. The Knighton Hotel retains original features with double-height ceilings, galleried landing, impressive staircase, timber beams and stone walls.

Arranged over four floors, it offers 18 guest rooms across a range of types including standard, superior, deluxe, suites, family rooms, and a self catering two-bedroom apartment with kitchen. The public areas are mostly on the ground floor and include a dining room, café area and public bar. The kitchen is vast and in the basement along with a number of further ancillary rooms. A spacious and historic banqueting facility is present which has been restored in recent months which we believe was formally the town hall.

Externally, there is parking for six to eight vehicles at the hotel, but does adjoin a larger, town centre pay & display car park.

Location

The Knighton Hotel is centrally located on Broad Street in a historic border town with excellent walking access, convenient transport links, and cultural sites, all within a short distance on foot.

A historic market town on the border, Knighton is known as the “Town on Offa’s Dyke,” straddling the England/Wales border and lying along the River Teme. The hotel is just a few minutes’ walk from the starting points of both the Offa’s Dyke Path and Glynd r’s Way which is ideal for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts. You’re just steps from the Offa’s Dyke Centre on West Street, plus local attractions like the Spaceguard Observatory and Knighton Museum are within easy reach.

Knighton Railway Station is around a 10-minute walk away on the scenic, 'Heart of Wales' line. The local bus station is only five minutes on foot. Knighton sits at the junction of the A4113 and A488 roads, approximately midway between Shrewsbury and Hereford, making it easily accessible by car. Further towns and cities within easy reach include:

Presteigne – 15 mins: A charming Welsh border town with galleries, festivals, and riverside walks
Llandrindod Wells – 30 mins: Victorian spa town with a lake, shops, and the National Cycle Museum
Leominster (Herefordshire) – 40 mins: Historic market town with antique shops and Priory Church
Rhayader – 45 mins: Gateway to the Elan Valley Lakes
Hereford – 1 hr 10 mins: Cathedral city with good shops, restaurants, and the Mappa Mundi

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to take the reins of this grand town centre hotel. The hotel offers a new owner a relatively blank canvas. Having operated for many years as a successful hotel, it already offers rooms, communal spaces, function facilities, and a bar/restaurant. Other uses include apartments, both short hold rentals and holiday rentals, mixed-use commercial or even residential subject to the relevant consents. It does require some extensive refurbishment, but gives a new owner the opportunity to put their own stamp on the property.
