The property is located in the Castro Praetorian district, eighteenth district of Rome, indicated with R. Xvill.
The name derives from the Castra Praetoria, a barracks where the Praetorian guard resided in Roman times.
The true promoter of the Renaissance urbanization of the district was Sisto V Peretti, who had shown the great interest in the area even before becoming Pope, making himself built a grandiose villa on the edge of the Interior Ministry which extended with the garden richly adorned with fountains and portals between The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, and the current Via Marsala and via del Viminale.
