Description

DESCRIPTION
Little documented history can be found on The Old School House, certainly the building it sits behind was indeed the old school and now serves as the village hall. From the houses name and its location it seems reasonable to assume that The Old School House once housed the schoolteacher of the time and the age of the property is likely to be Victorain.
Whatever the propertys lineage it is a wonderful character cottage with good ceiling heights, latched doors, fireplaces, and large light absorbing sash windows.
You are greeted by a spacious lobby that has an arched door and windows either side with slate sills and this opens into a sitting room with an old stock brick fireplace (not working) and the staircase. Beyond is the kitchen/dining room where there is another tall fireplace, this one could be used to accommodate a woodburning stove or range but would need lining. Standing along one wall is the Sandyford cooking range, the cottage model we believe with a twin pressure jet burner that provides a boiler for the heating and hot water, although the hot water can be heated without the need to have the cooker or heating running. The range comprises 2 ovens, a boiling plate and simmering plate. There is a farmhouse size Belfast sink and adjacent the sink plumbing for a washing machine if so desired. A useful walk in larder is by the outside double doors. In the bathroom is a wc, a circular wash basin set in a tiled counter with a cupboard below, and a freestanding ball and claw feet roll top bath that has panelling behind it. There is also the plumbing and waste for a shower to be refitted.
On the first floor are two double bedrooms, the biggest has built in wardrobes and from the window you can snatch a view of the hills and valley in the distance. Both retain their fireplaces (neither working). Storage space exists in each of the lofts and each has a light.

OUTSIDE
One entrance is via the lobby and another way in is at the end of the garden and a gate accessed down a different path. Said garden is a decent patch of lawn with a stone patio separating it and the house.

There is no official parking with the property

The closest public car park is at the nearby playing field.

AGENTS NOTES RELATING TO THE PROPERTY:

LOCATION
Ashendon is a lovely hilltop village of mainly Cottages and old Farmhouses with breathtaking views over the Aylesbury plain. The Ash Tree is a charming inn under new management and there is a playing field adjacent the Church of St Mary which stands at the summit of the village and holds in a long, low recess in the Chancel, an effigy of an unknown Knight.
The name Ashendon comes from Ashen-Hill, i.e. grown over with ashes. The area was once the ancient Berwood Forest and the old hunting grounds of Saxon and Norman Kings. For more information on the village visit

The nearby market towns and villages provide a wealth of historical and interesting places to visit including Waddesdon Manor, Claydon House and Quainton Steam Railway. Extensive shopping facilities are situated at Bicester Village Retail Outlet, the refurbished Friars Square Centre in Aylesbury, Milton Keynes and Oxford.
Thame Parkway Station about 5 miles away and Aylesbury (approx. 11 miles) both provide a fast convenient service reaching London Marylebone in under an hour. The A41 provides easy access into Aylesbury, Bicester and the M40 network. The Aylesbury line has been extended to Aylesbury Vale Parkway station which now provides a frequent service to Marylebone from Fleet Marston.
